About

“Since I was very little, I was always creating,” says Julie Nunn, who minored in Art at the University of the Pacific. She is a ceramicist, painter, photographer and teacher working with artists and teaching art programs to all levels.

Nunn, who divides her time between Mill Valley, California, and her hometown, Palos Verdes, attributes her late grandmother, Barbara Nunn, an acclaimed sculptor and painter, as one of her main inspirations. She's also influenced by artists such as Pablo Picasso, and uses oils and pastels on a variety of surfaces including canvas and birch wood. “I love painting, taking photographs, and sculpting out of porcelain,” adds Nunn, who is a member of the O’Hanlon Center for the Arts in Mill Valley, Laguna Outreach for Community Arts in Laguna Beach, and has exhibited work at numerous galleries and art shows. “And, being a beach kid from Southern California, I love the sky and ocean, and the two juxtaposing. I bring emotion to my work through movement or color.”

Among Nunn's beloved subjects is the sea. “Being near or close to the water is very important to me, and I love having my toes in the sand,” says Nunn. “Spending a few moments at the beach with the wind at my back, and walking in the water is what rejuvenates me and gives me peace. I can’t explain it, it just calls to me and I feel home.”

Julie's art is available for purchase at BLOOMINGAYLES in Mill Valley, California. Julie accepts commission requests.
